A steady wave of fans and former North Iredell wrestlers came by to congratulate Bryan Tutterrow after his Raiders dismantled South Rowan 64-11 on Friday night.

North Iredell’s beloved coach now has 400 wins under his belt. He was presented a plaque afterward commemorating his achievement.

“The number doesn’t matter to him,” North Iredell’s Taylor Souther said. “He just wants us to do well.”

The senior knows his coach well.

“This is amazing, but I’d trade it for any one of these guys,” Tutterrow said. “It’s not as important to me as it is for these guys to get to Greensboro (for the state tournament) or win a conference championship as an individual. They can still get those things, but I’d trade (the milestone) if I could get them what they needed.”

Tutterrow’s coaching career spans over two decades, and 280 of his wins have come at North Iredell. Before taking the reins at his alma mater, he led West Iredell to 120 victories.

No one win stands out above the rest.

“They’re all great,” he said.

South Rowan (3-17, 0-5 North Piedmont Conference), which lost 64-18 to North Iredell earlier this season in the Raider-Viking duals, didn’t stand much chance of postponing the milestone for another occasion. The conference’s last-place team forfeited six matches, giving up a combined 36 points in the process.

Garrett Harshberger (170 pounds), Cole Trivette (138) and Garrett McCants (160) each recorded pinfall victories.

Joseph Lancaster (heavyweight), Taylor Cockerham (106) and Matthew Tutterrow (120) also wrestled and won for North Iredell.

Cockerham, one of four seniors, led big in the third period of his match but had to avoid a late pin attempt by Logan Durahm to improve to 34-0 on the season.

The Raiders (24-4, 5-0 NPC) assured themselves of at least a share of the NPC title. They can clinch it outright for the third year in a row and secure the league’s top seed for the upcoming 3A state dual-team playoffs with a win at East Rowan in Tuesday’s regular-season finale.

“I told them, ‘You don’t want to share it do you?’ ” “We’re going to work real hard Monday and try to win it outright Tuesday.”
