Annual Day of Dance set for Saturday

»  Comments | Post a Comment

While you thought you were just spoiling yourself, it turns out shopping, spa days and dancing can keep your heart healthy.

Iredell Health System will feed these habits — and try to add a few new ones — this Saturday at the Charles Mack Citizen Center during the national Spirit of Women Day of Dance for Heart Health.

“We do things differently every year,” said Iredell Health System spokeswoman Kelley Daspit.

In planning the annual heart-health fair, Daspit said, coordinators selected activities people enjoy to illustrate how being active and healthy can be fun.

The day will start with a variety of health screenings and a breakfast with a panel of physicians who will discuss heart health. Registration for the breakfast is now closed, Daspit said.

The breakfast is something new the healthcare provider is trying this year. The physicians will discuss how a woman’s heart changes over the course of her life.

Information will be available for men as well, Daspit said.

In addition to the health screenings, women can enjoy pampering from one of the five salons offering free services.

The event will include dance demonstrations and instruction from local dance groups until 3 p.m.  Among those participating are Betty’s School of Dance, Acrofitness, Rhythmic Essence Belly Dance Studio, Clog Carolina, Lucky Stars Line Dance Group and more.

The screenings, pampering and dancing is free. Registration starts at 8 a.m. Free health screenings, education and consultations will be available from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., with no registration necessary.
