The Mooresville Fire Department is hosting a program aimed at providing citizens with an inside view of the department and its operations.
The Mooresville Fire and Rescue Citizen’s Academy will be held beginning on April 9 and continuing for 10 weeks from 6-9 p.m. each Monday at Mooresville’s Station 4, 2014 Charlotte Hwy.
Some of the topics to be covered in the 10-week sessions are fire service history, organizational structure, CPR certification, fire extinguisher training, fire station tours, fire investigations, emergency apparatus and equipment, fire operations demonstrations, emergency medical services, search and rescue, protective clothing, self-contained breathing apparatus, hazardous materials, crash victim extrication, recruiting, certification and training, public safety education, helicopter landings and ride-along opportunities.
The curriculum includes live demonstrations, classroom learning and hands-on experiences, all of which are designed to give the participants a true feel for Mooresville Fire and Rescue.
Assistant Fire Chief Shane LaCount said the academy is designed to teach citizens about the many jobs the Mooresville Fire and Rescue does on a daily basis and to promote citizen interaction with the firefighters.
The entire program is free and open to anyone 18 or older who either lives or works in the Town of Mooresville or Iredell County. An application can be obtained at www.moorefire.org.
