The addition of former Iredell Superior Court Judge Kimberly Taylor to its list of partners allows Pope, McMillan, Kutteh, Edwards, Schieck and Taylor to expand into Taylorsville.
Taylor became a partner in January, and will divide her time between the firm’s Statesville and Taylorsville offices.
"I think it's going to be great for the people of Alexander County," said Taylor.
The new office will give Alexander County residents access to the resources provided by a full-service law firm, she said.
Taylor served as District and Superior Court judge for more than 20 years. After leaving the court system in 2008, she joined the Lewis and Daggett law firm before starting her own practice with offices in Statesville and Taylorsville.
Senior Partner Bill Pope said Taylor impressed many with her intellect and character and her ability to control the courtroom as a judge,
“It’s hard to get used to not calling her judge,” Pope said. “We were exceptionally fortunate to have her join our firm. She is a very good lawyer.”
The Taylorsville office will be open five days a week, even though Taylor will split her time between that office and the office on North Center Street.
Pope said the law firm has a rich tradition dating back to 1915. The other partners at the firm include Bill McMillan, Costi Kutteh, Andrea Edwards and Charles Schieck.
Taylor is a Certified Mediator. Her principal areas of practice are mediation and arbitration along with criminal, traffic, personal injury and family law.
She graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Law and received her Juris Doctorate with Honors in 1981.
The office in Taylorsville is located at 415 Hwy 16 South and is open on Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
