Two men were charged with breaking into a home on Bethesda Road.
Dustin Blaine Owensby, 24, of Brook Creek Drive, Troutman, was charged with two counts of breaking and entering and one county of larceny as well as several counts of probation violation. Darren Lynn Moore Jr. of Salisbury was charged with two counts of breaking and entering, two counts of larceny and is facing charges in Rowan County.
Late last month, the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office received a report that someone had stolen items from an outbuilding on Bethesda Road. Detective John Adams was assigned to investigate, and he spoke with detectives from the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office concerning some similar break-ins in that county. In the Rowan cases, a witness spotted a gray van and was able to get a tag number, said Iredell Sheriff Phil Redmond.
Adams then talked with the registered owner of the van and learned that Owensby was driving the van on that occasion, he said. Detectives also learned that Owensby was being sought on the outstanding probation violation warrants, Adams said.
When detectives went to Owensby’s residence, he fled the scene, Adams said. He was later found hiding in a residence near Mooresville, reports indicate. A search of his residence revealed several stolen items that were linked to a variety of breaking and entering cases, Adams said. The estimated value of the recovered property is $4,000.
The witness from Rowan County also told authorities a second man was in the van and authorities learned his name was Darren Moore, Adams said. Authorities from Rowan and Iredell spoke with Moore at his Salisbury home and located more stolen property, Adams said.
Owensby was placed in the Iredell County Detention Center in lieu of a $97,000 bond in both counties. Moore’s bond was set at $20,000 in both Iredell and Rowan counties.
