A Hiddenite man is facing charges that he coerced three people into taking out false warrants against another person.
Anthony O’Brian Hill, 41, of Hiddenite, was charged with three counts of subornation of perjury, first-degree burglary, second-degree kidnapping and acting as a bondsman without a license.
Lt. Erinn Jenkins of the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office said a woman came to the sheriff’s office in January and reported that she had been bonded out of jail by Hill and made to stay at his home. She told Jenkins she left on three occasions and all three times, Hill found her and made her return to his home.
Jenkins said on one of the occasions, the woman was at a home in the Scotts community, and Hill came to the house around 8:30 or 9 p.m. and identified himself as a bondsman. Hill, he said, entered the home without permission and used pepper spray on two people at the house.
Jenkins said he learned that Hill had represented himself as a bondsman when bailing the woman out of jail initially but it was actually a local bondsman who posted the bond for her release.
During the course of the investigation, the woman told Jenkins that several warrants had been taken out on her for various crimes and that she didn’t know any of the people and was not involved in the crimes.
Jenkins interviewed several people in this case, including some of those who took out the warrants on the woman. Three individuals told Jenkins that the charges were false and that Hill had offered them either money or some other service to take out the warrants.
All of the charges against the woman were dismissed by Assistant District Attorney Carrie Nitzu.
As the investigation progressed, Jenkins said, two other women reported that Hill had represented himself as a bondsman and made them stay at his home after their bonds were posted. The women said Hill told them he was responsible for them and was going to assist them with various legal and other problems.
Hill, the women told Jenkins, threatened to return them to jail if they didn’t stay at his house and follow his instructions.
Last week, Hill was arrested and placed in the Iredell County Detention Center in lieu of a $70,000 bond.
The investigation is still ongoing and it is likely more charges will be filed, Jenkins said.
Anyone who has had dealings with Hill is asked to call the sheriff’s office at (704) 878-3180.
