Two men have been charged with stealing light fixtures from the old Davis Hospital.

Jeremy Long, 33, and Frederick Howell, 21, both of Statesville, were charged with felony breaking and entering and larceny.

Statesville Police Department Capt. D.B. Johnson said officers answered a call concerning a possible break-in at the old Davis Hospital site at 709 West End Ave. early on the morning of Jan. 25.

Officers found a vehicle parked at some nearby apartments and saw wet footprints just behind the building, Johnson said.

Officers J.D. Icard and M.L. Jennings watched the area, and around 1:30 a.m., saw two men emerge from the old hospital building, and both were carrying light fixtures, he said.  The officers detained the two, and discovered about 35 other light fixtures stacked outside of the building, Johnson said.

Long and Howell were then arrested.
