A Statesville man was found hiding inside a local church late last week and arrested on a breaking and entering charge.
Wendell Owenby, 52, was charged with misdemeanor breaking and entering.
Statesville Police Department Capt. D.B. Johnson said officers responded to an alarm at First ARP Church, 123 E. Broad St., around 4:40 a.m. Friday. They found a broken window in a basement door.
Deputy Brandon Johnson of the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office brought his canine to the scene, and with the assistance of the canine, officers located Owenby hiding inside the building, Johnson said. He was taken into custody without incident.
