Two men face charges in connection with an armed home invasion and assault that occurred in January.

Deonte Clark, 19, of Statesville was charged with first-degree burglary and was ordered held in lieu of a $75,000 bond. Jay Harper, 20, of Statesville, is being sought on charges of first-degree burglary and assault with a deadly weapon.

Statesville Police Department Capt. D.B. Johnson said that on Jan. 22 a woman was assaulted during a home invasion on Brown Summit Avenue.

Johnson said that around 11 p.m. on Jan. 22, a woman answered a knock at the door and was struck with a gun when she opened the door. Two men then came into the home, but were driven off by the victim’s boyfriend, who used a coffee table to defend himself and his girlfriend from the armed intruders, he said.

Warrants were obtained for both Harper and Clark on Friday, and Clark was arrested on Monday after a short foot pursuit.
