Man killed in shooting at Third Creek Road bar

STATESVILLE, NC - A person died and a second was wounded in a shooting early Sunday morning at a bar on Third Creek Road.

Victor Raul Torres Mondragon of Yadkinville died after a shooting at Tienda Los Jarochas on Third Creek Road, east of Statesville around 1 a.m. Sunday. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Iredell County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrived on scene at 114 Third Creek Road and found an unresponsive man.

The scene was secured and witnesses were identified. The Homicide Investigation Team and Crime Scene Unit responded to the scene.

Upon speaking to witnesses, information was obtained that a second victim had been transported from the scene to Iredell Memorial Hospital by a private vehicle, said Lt. Errin Jenkins.

The second victim went to the hospital to seek treatment for two gunshot wounds to the lower leg.

He was treated and released from the hospital, Jenkins said.

The witnesses were taken to the sheriff’s office for interviews and further investigation, Jenkins said.

Statements were obtained, which corroborated evidence located at the crime scene showing there were two people involved in the shooting, Jenkins said..

The sheriff’s office is looking for a vehicle possibly driven by the suspect or suspects in this homicide, which is the first one of the year for the sheriff’s office.

A sport utility vehicle, last seen on U.S. 70 East towards Salisbury, is being sought in the case.  The suspect vehicle is described a white Lincoln Navigator with 20 to 22-inch chrome aftermarket wheels, and possibly aftermarket rear signal lights, which when activated may display “Navigator.”

The suspect vehicle may have damage to the driver’s side or rear of the vehicle which may be consistent with damage from a gunshot or damage from a bullet.

Jenkins said witnesses did not provide a description of the shooter or shooters. He said there was alcohol use involved and, thus far, detectives have not been able to pinpoint what prompted the shooting.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office at (704) 878-3100 or the Iredell County Crime Stoppers (704) 662-1340.
