Fire destroys vacant house

»  Comments | Post a Comment

An extinguished fire at a home on Fourth Street flared back up early Tuesday morning, destroying the vacant home.

Statesville Fire Marshal Mike Billings said firefighters answered a call at 1002 Fourth St. around 11:40 p.m. Monday.

A portion of the house was on fire, and firefighters were able to bring it under control in less than 30 minutes, Billings said.

Around 2:40 a.m. Tuesday, firefighters were again called to the house, which was totally engulfed in flames, Billings said.

The second fire destroyed the house, he said.

Billings said it doesn't appear any accelerant was used to spark the initial fire.

He said it appears illegal activities were ongoing at the house and people were in and out of it on a regular basis.

Billings said the cause of the fire is undetermined.
