Numerous free screenings and educational exhibits will be the highlights during the Davis Regional Medical Center community health fair slated for Saturday, Sept. 18.
The event, which will run from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., will be held throughout the hospital, including the hospital classrooms, outpatient clinic and cafeteria.
Free screenings will include blood pressure, balance, eyes, body-mass index, depression, stress management and more.
In addition, the hospital will provide a variety of lab tests for $5 each. Tests include TSH (thyroid), CBC, cholesterol (Total Lipid Panel Profile), AIC (blood sugar) and a Comprehensive Metabolic Panel.
Since many of the lab tests require an eight-hour fasting period, participants may choose to have their blood work completed from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Sept. 12-17 in the hospital’s laboratory. Results will then be available during the health fair, with physicians and other medical personnel on hand to help interpret results. Individuals interested in early blood work should go to the Davis Regional cashier’s office for the necessary paperwork.
Educational exhibits offered during the event include information on total joints, hospice care, pregnancy, car seat safety, breast health, home care and personal services, dental, heart health and stroke awareness.
Children’s events include games, fingerprinting and face painting, and expectant moms will be treated to deluxe services in the Special Delivery area. At 11 a.m., the Special Delivery & Kids Zones areas at the hospital will sponsor a baby crawl race for infants.
A free prostate screening, with PSAs and digital exams, will also be conducted that day in the hospital’s outpatient clinic. Men 50 and older, or men 40 and older who are experiencing symptoms, are ideal candidates to be screened.
Any civic organization or health care provider interested in exhibiting during the event should call Janie Stikeleather, Davis Regional marketing director, at (704) 838-7106 before Wednesday, Sept. 8.
