The theme coincides with The Big Read in Iredell County. The Big Read is an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with the Institute of Museum and Library Services and Arts Midwest. The program is designed to encourage citizens to read for pleasure and enlightenment. This February we hope that everyone in Iredell County will read and discuss the same book.
The Big Read Committee is planning a month-long series of events (read-a-thons, book discussions, theatrical presentations, arts and writing contests and displays, panel discussions, movie screenings…) that are based on the themes presented in the book. Kickoff events are planned for Feb. 1, 2009. A calendar of events will be available later this fall.
