  • South Carolina offers Smith

    South Iredell linebacker LaChaston Smith picked up another scholarship offer from a Southeastern Conference school. Smith, a three-star linebacker, was offered a football scholarship by South Carolina, Vikings head coach Scott Miller said Wednesday night in a text message to the R&L.

  • Statesville still searching for boys soccer coach

    Going into summer, Statesville is still looking to fill an open coaching position for a fall sport. Athletic director Bobby Morrison said the school has not hired anyone to take over the boys soccer team. Gordon Palmer left the team at the end of the 2011 season after accepting an administrative position at West Iredell.

  • Smith nominated for US Army game

    LaChaston Smith has the chance to play in one of the most prestigious high school All-American games in the country. The South Iredell linebacker learned Thursday that he was nominated for the U.S. Army All-American Bowl.

  • Borders commits to Duke

    And the commits just keep on coming from Statesville football players. Defensive back Breon Borders on Thursday became the third Greyhound to commit to a Football Bowl Subdivision school in a 12-day period.

  • South LB Smith not committing until ready

    With recruiting all but closed on two of the three star football players in Iredell County, one is still keeping his options open. South Iredell linebacker LaChaston Smith, unlike Statesville’s Carlis Parker (Virginia Tech) and Tristan Mumford (East Carolina), has not made a decision on where he will play college football.

  • Parker gives verbal commitment to Hokies

    Head coach Randall Gusler called Carlis Parker over to talk as the quarterback was about to leave workouts Monday. Gusler then congratulated Parker, who wore an orange-collared shirt, on his verbal commitment to Virginia Tech.

  • Daniels is 4th junior to get offer

    Justin Daniels became the fourth member of Statesville’s class of 2013 with the option to play college football. Daniels was offered a scholarship Thursday by Georgia State University, head coach Randall Gusler said. 

  • 3 Vikings players visit colleges

    Three key defensive players for the Vikings took recruiting trips during spring break. Scott Miller Jr., John Bustle and Eythan Kramm were on the trail, Vikings head coach Scott Miller said in a text message.

  • Mumford moving to LB in college

    Tristan Mumford is switching sides when he steps onto a football field at East Carolina. Mumford, who committed to the Pirates on Saturday, is moving from primarily being a running back to linebacker.

  • Mumford chooses Pirates

    East Carolina landed another recruit from Iredell County this weekend. Tristan Mumford, the Greyhounds’ running back, committed to East Carolina on Saturday, head coach Randall Gusler said Sunday. Mumford was in Greenville for the Pirates’ spring game.

  • Lester pulls down 10 boards in Jordan regional game

    The week was both fast and slow for Shawn Lester as it built toward Saturday. The Mooresville senior put up shots Monday before Tuesday’s practice with his West teammates leading up to the Jordan Brand Classic regional game.

  • Mason Plumlee returning to Duke

    Mason Plumlee is returning to Duke for his senior season. The 6-foot-10 forward announced his decision Tuesday.

  • McAdoo to return for 2012-13

    North Carolina got back at least one of the players who flirted with the NBA Draft this year. The school announced today that James Michael McAdoo will go back to Chapel Hill for the 2012-13 season.  

  • Mattox signed with Catawba

    Cam Mattox made a choice to where he will play college football. Head coach Scott Miller said last week Mattox decided to play at Catawba College in Salisbury and planned to deliver the National Letter of Intent during the weekend.
