I read the guest column by Rep. Virginia Foxx. At 80 years old, I have gotten more out of Social Security and Medicare than I paid in. She did not mention all the ones on Medicaid that have never paid anything in. I say, if you don't pay anything in, you shouldn't get anything out.

It's time for U.S. to stop turning the other cheek

After much study, I think I have a solution to our economic problem. Bring home all our military personnel from all over the world, stop all imports and exports, stop all foreign aid, close the borders and kick out all illegals.

You say we have to have oil? If we could not import oil, the oil companies would find it here. They are not going out of bussines. Maybe then we would be able to take care of our own.

You say, how would we protect ourselves? When we are attacked, we can send one of our drone planes to take them out.

Well, what about civilian casaulties? War is hell. Our enemies need to understand this.

Since World War II, we have given peace a chance. We should be tired of turning the other cheek.

Jim Freeland
Statesville

Special interests have made
our nation ungovernable
This country has once again proven itself to be so firmly in the power of wealthy special interests as to be ungovernable. Even the elemental efficiencies of single payer health care are beyond its entrenched greed.

As we approach our last chance to save our doomed, climate-stricken planet, to state the need for revolution would be an understatement. But revolution is not possible. They also control information. God help us.

It was also stated that the money would be given to the foster parents. Why does DSS need $33,000 for 200 children? That is about $165 per child.
