Two local entrepreneurs are giving Iredell County artists another medium to express themselves — print.
George Joye and Jay White recently distributed Iredell Art Quarterly, a quarterly magazine with a circulation of about 5,000.
Joye and White have spent quite a bit of time this year around the coffee counter at White's business, Broad Street Gallery, this year, talking talking about the state of arts and culture in Iredell County.
One day, White suggested they publish a magazine promoting the arts.
The first issue took about six weeks from the time Joye and White came up with the idea to when it was finally published.
The first issue was released to coincide with the September Downtown Art Crawl, Joye said.
"Once we cleared the fact that he was in charge, it was easy," White jokingly said about Joye. "There is a generous supply of talent in Iredell County. The thing we've done is getting that message into the community."
The second issue includes a feature on potter Robin Beckett and a photo collage of Jennings store in Union Grove. Joye and White said it was important for them to feature artists from all around Iredell County.
The 16-page magazine will feature what the two call "artrepreneurs," artists who make a living with their craft. White said they aren't just interested in visual artists, but musicians and writers, as well.
"Everybody who talks about it is excited," Joye said.
