Suddenly-hot West Iredell won its second consecutive North Piedmont Conference game Monday, riding a dominating second quarter to a convincing 77-54 win over North Iredell.

"This was our best game of the year shooting-wise," said Warriors coach Benjamin Johnson. "Everyone was hitting."

The Raiders, who had not played since Jan. 26 because of the bad weather, showed signs of rust.

North was sluggish from the outset, struggling to get good looks.

The main bright spot for North was a flurry at the end of the first quarter.

Down 12-6 with less than two minutes remaining in the opening quarter, the Raiders went on a 8-0 run to grab a 14-12 lead. The run was sparked by freshman Austin St. John, who banked in two 3-pointers in the outburst.

North's momentum was short-lived, however, as the Warriors took control with an incredible 29-8 run in the second quarter.

The blitz was led by Hunter Blohm, who nailed four big 3-pointers and scored 14 points in the quarter. Marquise Stevenson also had a big quarter with eight points.

"I've been waiting on this kind of performance from Hunter all year," Johnson said. "He showed what he is made out of. I'm proud of him."

Keith Gray's behind-the-back pass to Blohm for a layup right before the halftime buzzer was the exclamation point on a 41-22 first-half explosion.

"This was my best game of the year by far," said Blohm. "My team gave me the ball, and I had confidence tonight."

Raiders coach Tony Davenport refused to use the long layoff as the reason for the loss.

"I'm not into making excuses," Davenport said. "West just beat us in every aspect of the game."

Drew Alford, Blohm and Stevenson paced the Warriors, each pouring in 16 points. Colt Pierce led North with 20 points and 10 rebounds.

North Iredell (3-13, 3-6 NPC) plays at Statesville on Wednesday while the Warriors (5-15, 3-8) host East Rowan on Thursday.
