STATESVILLE, NC - Two men were charged with breaking into a convenience store.
Rodney Dale Pearce, 24, and George Wesley Beers Jr., 33, of Statesville were each with breaking and entering, and Beers was also served with a probation violation charge.
Iredell Sheriff Phil Redmond said deputies answered a suspicious person call at 2:30 a.m. on Jan. 25 at the Sunshine Express store, 2225 Wilkesboro Hwy.
Deputy Tim Rogers arrived and found two men standing next to a shed behind the store, and both took off running when they spotted the deputy, Redmond said.
The two were able to avoid capture, but deputies did find a large hole in the side of the block building. Redmond said it appeared the two tried to gain entry by using a sledge hammer to break the blocks.
Nothing was taken from inside the store.
Detective Sgt. Errin Jenkins began an investigation, and developed Pearce and Beers as suspects after several interviews and by reviewing the evidence collected at the scene.
As a result both were charged.
