Students at Woodland Heights Elementary School are having a big say in what a sprawling new playground at the Lowe's YMCA will look like.
They met with the playground's chief designer to offer ideas for the design of the planned Hope Park. Their best suggestions will be incorporate into the community's motorsports culture in designing the facility, officials said.
The 20,000-swuare-foot playground is a partnership between the Town of Mooresville and the Lowe's YMCA. It will include a water spray ground, picnic shelter and memorial garden.
Leathers and Associates of Ithaca, N.Y., is designing the park.
Build Hope Park, a non-profit group formed under the auspices of the Hope at the Point Foundation, is spearheading the fundraising efforts for the facility.
"I am excited and proud to live in a community that is coming together to do this project," said Sarah Dumser, of the Build Hope Park organization.
She said hundreds of volunteers will be needed in the construction process, which is schedule for March 10-14, 2010.
