Lightning caused about $20,000 to the home of NASCAR driver Greg Biffle on Friday morning.
An Iredell County sheriff's deputy responded to a burglar alarm at Biffle's Doolie Road home around 6:30 a.m. and found damage to the structure.
The deputy asked that the fire department be dispatched to the scene.
Shepherds and Mooresville fire departments responded, and found cosmetic damage to the front of the house.
Fire personnel searched the house, but found no additional damage.
All of the damage was to the front area of the home.
The damage to both the interior and exterior in the front of the house was extensive, fire officials said.
Neighbors reported severe weather in the area at the time, and officials believe a lightning strike caused the damage.
