Visitors to the Eighth Annual Allison Woods Living History event this weekend will get a battlefield perspective of World War II and the Civil War.
Re-enactments of the wars will be held Saturday and Sunday. The annual Living History weekend will also include demonstrations from the Revolutionary War and Vietnam War.
Located off of U.S. Highway 21 toward Harmony, the event will include a display of a replica of the H.L. Hunley, which — according to the Friends of the Hunley Web site — was the first submarine to sink an enemy ship on Feb. 17, 1864.
On Friday, the grounds and events will be open to students, teachers and parents, according to the Allison Woods' Web site.
Attendees will be able to walk among period shopkeepers, do crafts and learn about period living with lessons on the infantry, how to fire a cannon and period clothing. Authentic uniforms and equipment will be on display.
The event will not be open to the general public that day.
Admission for Saturday and Sunday is $10 a person, although children 12 and younger will be admitted at no charge. Gates open at 9 a.m. There will be a period church service on Sunday and a Lantern Tour on Saturday.
The event will include music, an 1860 fashion show, a ladies tea, Council of War and a coloring contest.
