Greta Lint began her work for the Statesville Convention and Visitors Bureau (SCVB) recently with a long laundry list of items.
Lint was recently contracted by the SCVB to handle numerous projects until the SCVB Board of Directors hires a replacement for Libba Barrineau, who left in August for a job at the NASCAR Hall of Fame.
Lint's contract is for an indefinite period of time. She will be paid $1,600 every two weeks, plus mileage.
As the interim project leader, Lint will split her work time between the Visitors Center on East Broad Street and her home in Asheboro. She will stay on until the new director is hired and then train that person.
"I want to pave the way for the new director to be able to come in and know up front what the story is," Lint said.
Some of the projects she will work on include organizing the logistics of the Cycle NC stop, helping find sponsors for PumpkinFest, putting legs on the Red Hat Ladies' "The Big Purple Undies" event in April 2010 and working on the Statesville Visitors Guide.
"Some of the work needs to be done on site," she said. "Some of the work can be done remotely."
One of her first major tasks is finishing the logistics for the "Cycle NC Mountains to Coast" fall ride route, which stops in Statesville overnight on Sept. 28. She will hold a meeting at Sept. 17 at 5:30 p.m. at Fairview Baptist Church on Turnersburg Highway.
As of Sept. 8, 1,050 riders have signed up for the tour and organizers expect 100 more. Of those riders, 800 will probably go out to eat in Statesville, which is why she wants to organize the transportation.
SCVB Board of Directors Vice Chairman Bryan George said he has been impressed with Lint's enthusiasm when they worked together in the past.
Her working relationships with people in the community and her knowledge of the projects coming down the line will help in orchestrating upcoming events, he said.
"She doesn't do anything halfway, and I like that," George said. "I think she will make Statesville look good, which is the goal."
Lint said she's worked on several projects in Statesville since 2003.
Lint provided contracted public relations services for the SCVB until the declining economy started hitting hoteliers hard and occupancy tax collections went down.
"CVBs around the world are being hit right now," she said. "It did not surprise me when Libba called me."
Statesville Civic Center Director Kenny Roberts said he's already talked to Lint several times since she was awarded the contract.
"I think she just has a lot of energy and a lot of experience that will help the city," he said. "She is willing to promote the city in any way possible."
