CHARLOTTE - Statesville Christian made a run at it, but Hickory Grove was too tough at the end and downed the Lions 8-3 on Tuesday.

Trailing 3-0 in the first half, the Lions made it 3-2 behind Daniel DeGraff's two goals, but could get no closer.

DeGraff added another goal late on a penalty kick.

Garrison Dale tallied an assist for Statesville Christian, which plays Gaston Christian on Thursday.
