Rhonda Henderson of Statesville won $50,000 playing the "Lifetime Riches" instant scratch-off ticket from the N.C. Education Lottery.
A trip to the market for a loaf of bread made a Rowan County woman a millionaire. While at the Crossroad Market on Lentz Road in China Grove, Beth Ann Prymock says she decided to buy a Powerball ticket for the Aug. 29 drawing. She spent an extra dollar to Power Play the ticket, and when it matched all five numbers drawn, she won $1 million!
Prymock says she initially thought she'd won $600,000 since the Power Play multiplier was three for the drawing, but then realized in the middle of the night that Power Playing her ticket meant an automatic $1 million. "I woke up at 3 a.m. and said 'I won a million dollars!'" Prymock said.
Prymock plans to use her winnings, which totaled $680,000.64 after taxes, to travel. She says she'd like to go to the Grand Canyon and Germany.
