Churches swap pastors, choirs to revive Holy Spirit

The four Statesville churches participating in the East Statesville Spiritual Revival starting Sunday will switch pulpits and choirs.
The revival rotating between Christ Boulevard United Methodist Church, Oakdale Baptist, Covenant Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church and Shiloh African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church exposes parishioners to different styles of preaching and music.
Churches will take turns hosting revival events Sunday through Wednesday at 7 p.m.
The scenery and the speakers might be different every night, said David Knapp, Oakdale Baptist's minister of education. The message is always the same.
"The main thing is to present God's word and to glorify him," Knapp said. "That is what is common to all denominations is that Jesus Christ died for our sins."
Christ Boulevard UMC Pastor Ron Doub preached at the revival for the first time last year and said it was a wonderful experience.
It gives the churches and congregants an opportunity to reinforce their relationships within the community, he said.
The only difficulty in organizing the event is finding dates that suit all four churches, Doub said.
Knapp said the event is a good opportunity for the churches to get together and worship.
"I would hope that something like this and other services like them would create an awakening," Knapp said.
The four-day revival ends Wednesday with communion.
