Three Mooresville residents have been charged with multiple break-ins of vehicles in the Mooresville area.
Arrested were Christopher Swanwick,18; Nicholas Hood, 19; and Paul Mills, 18.
In a press release today, the Iredell County sheriff's Offices said:
Beginning in early September the Sheriff's office began an investigation into Multiple breaking and entering cases in the Mooresville area. In most every case the suspect entered vehicles looking for valuables.
The suspects would target a neighborhoods and under the cover of darkness enter the cars. In each case Detectives spoke with potential witnesses and suspects but no viable leads were developed. Evidence was collected at the scenes that was held for when a suspect was located.
After two months of investigation and numerous interviews Detectives received information about two men in possession of items that could not be explained. On the same day another lead came in when a local bank reported a person attempting to cash a check that had been reported as stolen.
Detectives were able to follow up on this information and were able to determine that both leads involved the same suspects. In attempts to locate the suspects it was determined that two of the suspect were trying to leave town. Detectives found the two suspects were attempting to board a bus in Charlotte going to New Hampshire during the late evening hours of October 21 2009.
Sheriff's Office detectives along with CMPD officers got to the bus station ahead of the suspects and were able to take them into custody without incident.
The two men identified as Christopher Swanwick and Nicholas Hood, escorted back to Iredell County Sheriff's Office. As the investigation continued the evidence indicated a third suspect was involved in break in's.There was sufficient evidence to pursue charges, which lead to the arrest of Mills.
A search at one residence yielded additional stolen property that connected to the suspects to various breaking and entering cases. As the investigation continued it was determined that suspect had tried to pass stolen checks at other locations.
The totality of the evidence collected lead to the arrest of the three suspects for the following charges:
Swanwick, who lives on Gannett Road, was charged with 1 count burglary, 1 count B&E and larceny to a residence, 11 counts of breaking and entering a motor vehicle and 10 counts of larceny, and 1 count of possession of stolen property. He was placed in the Iredell County Detention under a total $50,000 secured bond.
Hood, who also lives on Gannett Road, was charged with 1 count burglary, 1 count B&E and larceny to a residence, 11 counts of breaking and entering a motor vehicle and 10 counts of larceny, 1 count of possession of stolen property, and 1 count of forgery and uttering. He was given a total $50,000 secured bond.
Mills, who lives on Commodore Loop, was charged with 9 counts of breaking and entering motor vehicle and 8 counts of larceny. He was given a $10,000 secured bond.
The investigation is still on-going and it is believed the suspects could be responsible for other crimes in the area.
