MOUNT PLEASANT - North Iredell's young volleyball team is playing with poise beyond its years.
The Raiders went on the road in the second round of the 3A state playoffs and manhandled Mt. Pleasant 3-0.
Against the top seed from the South Piedmont Conference, North Iredell (21-4) was nearly unhittable.
The Raiders served 17 aces as a team en route to a 25-13, 25-14, 25-19 win.
The victory moves them into the third round of the state playoffs.
North Iredell will play Thursday at Charlotte Catholic (22-5), which crushed Carson 3-0 (25-15, 25-11, 25-14) Tuesday evening.
Haley Rhyne led North Iredell with 19 kills, a huge number for playing just three games.
Rachel Wells added 27 assists, eight kills and four aces while Amy Shelton finished with six kills and five aces.
Freshman Brooke Redmond got into the act, too, finishing with five kills and serving four aces.
The key to this one, according to head coach Natalie Tribble, was a quick start.
The Raiders came out smacking shots all over the court and kept that momentum rolling throughout.
The winner of Thursday's North-Catholic match will advance into the fourth round to play either West Iredell (21-1) or the winner of Tuesday's Weddington (20-4)-Concord (19-4) match.
