Senior Ciera Combs is going out on top. For freshman Maggie Siebert, it's a sign of things to come.
Combs and Siebert, the top two players in Mooresville's girls tennis program, are heading to the 4A state championship tournament this weekend.
After winning the I-Meck 4A Conference tournament doubles championship last week, the duo handily won its first two matches of the 4A West Regional.
That moved them into the semifinals and guaranteed them a spot in the state championship.
Combs and Siebert finished fourth after losing to a team from Myers Park in the semifinals, and then again to a different team from Myers Park in the consolation semifinals.
The duo defeated a team from East Gaston in the first round and a Watauga doubles tandem in the second round.
As the fourth seed from the West Region, Combs and Siebert will play the No. 1 seed from the Mideast Regional.
