After winning the conference championship last week, the Blue Devils' boys cross country team will get a different type of challenge this weekend.
Mooresville will run in the 4A West Regional, and it's a loaded field.
"We're in the same region as a lot of teams from Charlotte, and also up in Watauga," Blue Devils runner Josh Cox said. "It's a tough field."
Along with Watauga, Mooresville has to contend with Ardrey Kell (No. 5 in NCRunners.com coaches poll) and Myers Park (No. 8).
The Blue Devils are ranked No. 9 in the state and should contend for a top-three spot.
"I'd like to sneak up on Myers Park or Ardrey Kell, but I don't know," Cox said. "We should finish in the top-three. "And I'd like to win the region, that's a goal of mine."
Cox has a shot, especially considering the competition. He spent much of the I-Meck season running by himself out front.
"It always helps me stay focused when I have somebody to race," Cox said.
