Vance only local qualifier

Kathryn Vance was the only area golfer to qualify for the state golf championship in last week's 1A/2A/3A Central Regional at Statesville Country Club.

Turns out, she's the only one in the entire county. Mooresville and Lake Norman did not have a golfer qualify at the 4A West Regional, so Vance is all alone in her quest for a good showing at states.

The two-day tournament, held at Longleaf Golf Club in Southern Pines, begins Monday.
