Clayton Patterson has always enjoyed finding ways to get people's attention. Tonight, more eyes than ever will focus on the Statesville 6-year-old.
The Third Creek Elementary School first-grader will be in the national spotlight when he is featured on the ABC television show "America's Funniest Home Videos."
He can thank his seemingly boundless energy, sense of humor and a mechanical bull for that.
"I'm excited because I'm going to be on TV," Clayton said.
The video, shot at Hickory Dickory Dock indoor family amusement center in Hickory, shows Clayton holding on for dear life during his first-ever ride on a mechanical bull.
As the bull sways back and forth, Clayton is swung around like a wet rag, but somehow manages to hold on for 49 seconds before being tossed off head-first.
Clayton, ever the showman, caps the ride by hopping to his feet and saying, "Do it again, that was fun!"
"He's always doing some corny off-the-wall thing," said Angela Patterson, Clayton's mother, who was persuaded by her five sons to send the video to "America's Funniest Home Videos" for consideration.
"He always keeps me laughing," she said.
