MOORESVILLE - Lake Norman stormed back from a 12-point deficit Friday evening and picked up a monster 20-18 win over conference heavyweight West Charlotte.

Jaquez Vanderburg caught a touchdown reception with 13 seconds left to seal the victory for Lake Norman.

That completed a remarkable comeback as the Wildcats trailed 12-0 early in the contest.

"The guys didn't give up," said Wildcats assistant coach Rob McNeely. "We made some adjustments defensively and were able to slow them down. The really pivotal point was we stopped them near the goalline, and then drove 95 yards for a touchdown to make it 18-13."

Vanderburg had another touchdown catch before his game-winner, and defensive lineman Chandler Caldwell got into the act with a 2-yard touchdown plunge.

Lake Norman (7-3 overall, 2-4 I-Meck) now has considerable momentum entering its bye week.

After having an off week Oct. 30, the Wildcats close the season against county rival and winless Mooresville.

A win there would put Lake Norman in serious contention for hosting a first-round playoff game.

"The guys just didn't give up," McNeely said. "Special teams, offense, defense, every single person played hard. That's how we were able to win. Our guys just completely pulled together and it was a total team win."
