The road to a 3A state championship in volleyball runs through Iredell County.

Through western Iredell County, to be specific.

The West Iredell Warriors, perfect in North Piedmont Conference play throughout the year, earned the NPC's No. 1 seed and all that comes with it.

The Warriors (19-1) open the playoffs Saturday at 5:30 p.m. against Concord Robinson, the No. 4 seed from the South Piedmont Conference.

According to the N.C. High School Athletic Association playoff brackets released Thursday, the Warriors will play at home throughout the entire West Regional, provided they keep winning.

Meanwhile, North Iredell (19-4) is the only other county school to open at home. The Raiders, seeded second in the NPC, drew Anson (8-8) for their opener Saturday.

Statesville (7-16), which slipped into the playoffs as the final NPC team, will play Weddington (19-4), the top seed from the Southern Carolina Conference.

In the 4A brackets, Lake Norman (16-9) was seeded as the I-Meck's No. 4 seed after losing a coin flip with Mooresville, and it might just work out to the Wildcats advantage.

Lake Norman will play at East Gaston (16-8), the No. 1 seed in the MEGA-7 Conference.

This is an interesting matchup for the Wildcats, though.

Both teams to Hopewell and North Meck this year, but Lake Norman swept North Gaston this season. East Gaston lost twice to North Gaston.

Also in the 4A bracket, Mooresville (10-6) will take a trip into the mountains to play Asheville Reynolds, the alma mater of Blue Devils coach Katie Higgins.
