The North Iredell boys soccer team's 4-2 win Wednesday night over Statesville was significant in more ways than one.
Not only did the victory move the Raiders into a first-place tie with Statesville in the North Piedmont Conference with two games remaining, it capped a perfect season for them at home.
Casey Harris, Tony Mendoza, Roger Vargas and Keenan Watson each pocketed one goal Wednesday for North, which closes out the regular season next week on the road at East Rowan and West Rowan.
The Raiders (12-5, 8-2 NPC) finished 9-0 at home, outscoring their opponents 38-9 in the process.
That's a promising track record for North if it gets the NPC's top seed for the postseason, considering how the 3A state playoff brackets are designed.
The No. 1 seed from the NPC gets homefield advantage all the way through the 3A West Regional final, provided it keeps advancing. The Raiders wouldn't have to hit the road until the state championship game, which is played at a neutral site.
