OLIN - North Iredell wasn't ready to concede the North Piedmont Conference championship just yet.
In a crucial game for both teams, the Raiders scored four unanswered goals Wednesday and earned a 4-2 win over Statesville.
The win puts the Raiders (12-5 overall, 8-2 NPC) right back in the race for a conference title.
"We definitely knew what was at stake," Raiders coach Stewart Kincaid said. "Our players had to stay awake the whole time. Statesville sets up really fast, so we had to stay on our toes."
The Greyhounds (10-8-1, 8-2) took a 1-0 lead three minutes in on a goal from Jose Boquin, but North responded with three goals before halftime.
Casey Harris, Tony Mendoza and Roger Vargas all scored in the first 45 minutes, and Keenan Watson made it 4-1 in the second half.
Statesville's Trent Gennusa ripped through the Raiders defense for a late goal to make it 4-2, but the Greyhounds could get no closer.
Travis Laws made 14 saves for North, which is now tied with Statesville atop the NPC standings with two games to go.
"We got what we needed tonight," Kincaid said. "Guys that were not passing as well, they passed very well. It was a very balanced effort. Guys like Asher Caldwell, Josh Lowry ... they all played a smart game."
Statesville hosts South Rowan on Monday while North Iredell travels to East Rowan.
