Not making the volleyball team turned out to be a pretty good thing for South Iredell sophomore Chloe Winecoff.
Wanting to find another sport in the fall, Winecoff turned to golf and demonstrated remarkable poise throughout the season.
"She played golf when she was very young and kind of gave it up for a few years," Vikings golf coach Bobby Deal said. "She decided to pick it back up."
Winecoff stood out despite playing behind a bunch of four-year players at the top of the lineup.
She played in the top five, and sometimes scored in the top three for the Vikings.
"She didn't even play in the first match, but she really contributed for us," Deal said. "If she keeps on working, she has a bright future."
