The search for a new Statesville Convention and Visitors Bureau chief is still ongoing.

The SCVB Board of Directors refined its job-search advertisement for the vacant executive director position at its monthly meeting Tuesday.

The job has been vacant since former Executive Director Libba Barrineau left SCVB for a position with the NASCAR Hall of Fame in August.

Chairman Andy Briggs said the advertisement revisions put added focus on the job's sales side, which includes developing a sales action plan that brings tourists to the area and conducting sales calls and outside sales in areas of interest to the CVB.

Briggs said the board will start preparing for interviews and he hopes to have someone in place to relieve interim project manager Greta Lint by Jan. 1.

Lint notified the Destination Marketing Association of North Carolina that the SCVB needed job descriptions from its membership. She also sent a list of questions to other tourism bureaus around the state through the N.C. Division of Tourism.

"We know people are going to mail their information in," Lint said.

She is currently preparing a number of lists and guides that will prepare the newcomer for different events around the area, including any future overnight visits from Cycle North Carolina.

During the meeting, Lint thanked the board for its assistance during the Sept. 28 overnight visit by more than 1,100 cyclists.

The event did have a couple of glitches, she said. For instance, law enforcement was not notified that the ride would take place.

Statewide organizers moved around some of the trailers, which made it necessary to tap into a fire hydrant, Lint said. Cycle NC had to pay $2,000 to Iredell Water to hook onto the system.

Lint said the new director needs to know what questions to ask and who to contact in order to make sure Statesville's participation in any future rides is handled efficiently.

During the meeting, Lint expressed her concerns about how the number of page hits from the Web site had dropped. The number of page hits dropped from 127,549 in August to 87,882 in September.

"Something's not right when a Web site drops that much," she said.

In order to drive more traffic to the Web site, which is considered the SCVB's top marketing tool, Lint said she is in the process of developing a blog.

Lint also asked the board to consider adding Site Meter and Google Analytics to track use of the site by viewers' location.
