Mooresville's boys cross country team is in good shape heading into this week's I-Meck Conference championship run.
The Blue Devils are the clear team to beat, and the got an early glimpse at the course at a pre-conference race last Wednesday at Reedy Creek Park in Charlotte.
"Our main goal was to basically try and check out the course," Blue Devils coach Michael Royal said. "It's a good course, it has a lot of trails and the footing is good. The boys should win conference. Our biggest competition will be from Lake Norman."
Tough at the top with Josh Cox, fellow senior Jordan Sledge has really run well in the No. 2 role.
Junior Braedon Koerwitz, a breakout star on last year's track team, decided to enroll at Concord Robinson this year.
Sledge has stepped in to fill that void and keep the Blue Devils in contention for a high finish at the 4A regionals.
"He's doing well," Royal said. "He ran a really good race at the Wendy's Invitational, and he's working out real well up there. He has a goal of making all-region, which is finishing in the top-10. He's doing what he needs to do to make that happen."
