Two brothers injured in a shooting in which their mother and father died are improving but authorities haven't been able to speak with them about what happened on Sunday.
Douglas Alan Thomas Jr. and his brother, Christian are both at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
Capt. Darren Campbell of the Iredell County Sheriff's Office said the two are still not able to speak with investigators.
Douglas A. Thomas Sr., and his wife, Linda, both 57, died Sunday at their Peninsula Drive home near Mooresville.
Campbell said one of the two deceased individuals was responsible for shooting both of the sons and the other deceased person in the house, but wants to speak with either of the two sons before making a positive determination about who fired the shots.
However, emergency personnel responding to the scene Sunday where informed that one of the young men said his father had shot him.
Deputies responded to the home Sunday morning after a cell phone call came from a young man inside the residence indicating there had been a shooting.
Initially, deputies were unable to locate anything, but heard cries for help from inside the house, and forced entry into the residence. There, they found the man and wife deceased and the two sons critically injured.
Investigators have learned that Doug Thomas Sr. was laid off from his job at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte a couple of months ago.
Campbell said an autopsy revealed both Doug and Linda Thomas died of gunshot wounds from a handgun.
