Liburdi Dimetric's growing need for space prompted the company to seek a bigger building.
The Davidson-based Liburdi company announced this week it plans to purchase the former Transolid building on Charlotte Highway in Mooresville, where it plans to move its operations by the end of the year.
The Transolid building was left vacant after that company moved its operations to Salisbury, said Mooresville-South Iredell Economic Development Corporation Executive Director Russ Rogerson.
Liburdi Dimetric will retain its 80 employees during the move. About 25 of those employees are residents of Iredell County.
The Mooresville site was selected over locations in Gaston County and Davidson.
The company plans to invest $6 million in the 86,000-square-foot building, which will allow it to meet its growing market opportunities and long term goals, Rogerson said.
The facility and the additional 10 acres of land behind it will provide the company with room to expand as needed.
"We are looking forward to tremendous growth in our automated welding equipment manufacturing and our turbine services re-manufacturing operations," Liburdi General Manager John Bottoms said in a press release. "Our partnership with Mooresville and Iredell County will help to create jobs and new investment."
The average hourly wage for the orbital welding products and precision lathes, seamer and positioners manufacturer is about $22.
Iredell County commissioners awarded a $71,200 economic development incentive to the company Tuesday based upon the purchase of the building, $500,000 in improvements to the building and relocating $3.5 million in equipment.
