CHARLOTTE
South Carolina authorities have arrested one of two men wanted in connection with the shooting of seven people at an unlicensed night spot in Charlotte last weekend, The Charlotte Observer reported.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police also issued citations Wednesday to two men they say are responsible for running the illegal club where the shooting occurred, a warehouse at 4030 Old Pineville Road.

Jeremy Quintarian Williams, 23, a felon awaiting trial on September assault charges, is accused of using a semi-automatic rifle to fire into a crowd of partygoers early Sunday.

Police say he was fleeing to Atlanta when he was captured with two friends Wednesday morning on Interstate 85 near Spartanburg.

Seven people were struck by bullets in Sunday's shooting, and all are recovering.

Both the owner and renter of the warehouse were cited for running the night spot -- a problem police say is growing as party promoters aim to avoid the city's rigorous and expensive permit process.

Property owner Donald Butler II was cited for operating a dance hall without a license. Butler said Wednesday that he did not know his warehouse was being used as a club. "I wasn't running a dance hall. I was renting out the building. I didn't know what they were doing there," he said.

Butler said he had been renting the warehouse to Orlando Miller, who told Butler he was trying to obtain proper permits to open a bar. Police said the renter had recently applied for alcohol and other permits but had been denied.

Police charged Miller with operating a dance hall without a permit and selling alcohol without a license.

Miller couldn't be reached Wednesday. Court records show he has a long arrest record, a previous drug conviction, and was awaiting trial for drunken driving.

On Monday, police issued warrants for Williams, charging him with attempted murder, shooting into occupied property and possession of a firearm by a felon.

Williams was with his girlfriend and a man named Montez Alphonso Davis when S.C. state troopers pulled him over Wednesday, police said. Davis was charged with aiding and abetting Williams by helping him flee.

Court records show Williams was released from prison in February after serving about four years for second-degree kidnapping, assault on a female, car theft and parole violations.

He was charged in a Sept. 10 brawl for allegedly striking a woman and threatening to kill her, but was freed on $7,500 bond.

A second man charged in connection with the Sunday shooting, 20-year-old Trevon Young, is still being sought. Police originally identified him as Trevor Young.

Young is charged with possession of a firearm by a felon.

He was also awaiting trial on assault charges, accused of pointing a gun at a group of people during the same Sept. 10 brawl. Young was arrested again last month for having a stolen firearm. He got out of jail quickly on bonds of $3,000 and $20,000.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Trevon Young is asked to call the Violent Criminal Apprehension Team at 704-336-VCAT, 911, or Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
