In numerous interviews published around the world, NASA astronaut Tom Marshburn has proudly called Statesville home.
Now Statesville has the chance to return the favor.
Back on solid ground after his 16-day Space Shuttle Endeavor mission, Marshburn will spend Sunday and Monday in Statesville, where he lived until age 9. During his visit, he will hold a question-and-answer session for residents, speak to two different school groups and attend a Chamber of Commerce luncheon.
Our city is fortunate to have the rare opportunity to hear firsthand about a journey to a place most of us have only visited in our dreams.
When Marshburn blasted into outer space, he took a little piece of Statesville with him.
And that's a reason for all of us to feel proud.
