There's been plenty of debate in Washington, D.C., on opinion pages, during town hall meetings and in living rooms across the country for the past three months about the need to reform our nation's health care system.
While neither the Democrats nor the Republicans have offered a fiscally-sound solution, we agree that reform is necessary and worth pursuing.
Meanwhile, we can all work toward reforming our personal health by eating more healthfully, exercising three times a week and minimizing our consumption of alcohol and tobacco.
The NAACP, in partnership with The Cove and the Iredell County Health Department, has scheduled a community health fair for Saturday where you can get screened for a half dozen chronic diseases and have your questions answered by local health care providers.
The fair will run from 1-5 p.m. at Kimbrough Park.
Last year's fair attracted about 300 people and organizers are anticipating a large turnout again this year.
Want to learn whether you're at risk for a stroke or diabetes? Are you concerned that your blood pressure or cholesterol are still a little high?
This fair offers a chance to stop wondering and provides an opportunity to take control of your health. That's the best kind of health care reform out there.
