The dinner will be held Thursday morning in the dining area from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Guests will enjoy all the fixings — turkey, dressing, ham, green beans, corn, potato salad, homemade desserts and more.
This year the shelter is planning for a slight increase in guests than in previous years, according to Program Director Patti West.
She said they are preparing to serve nearly 175 people. In the past, the number of attendees has hovered around 125.
"We don't have any idea this year because numbers in our soup kitchen have been up so much," she said.
According to West, the soup kitchen saw 27 percent more visitors than a month ago and, on any given day, they could be feeding double what the number was last year.
West said they are glad to be in a position to feed additional people this year.
"I'm grateful we have the facility to be able to do that," West said. "It's sad our country is in the economic condition it's in."
West said everyone on staff is thankful to hold the dinner in the new space because "we spent the past year being thankful for where we are."
Although there is enough food for Thanksgiving dinner, there is still a need for breakfast food items.
This year, the shelter will be handing out breakfast bags Thanksgiving morning and there is a need for fruit and sausage biscuits to make 100 bags.
Volunteer opportunities for Thanksgiving day have already been filled, but there are shifts available for Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
