The positive response to last year's Holiday Victorian Tea Parties have organizers thinking bigger this year.

The United Way of Iredell County fundraising series that brought in nearly $10,000 last year is slated for Dec. 9-12 at the Sharpe House, 402 S. Center St.

"This year, we're starting on Wednesday and adding another parlor so we can accommodate more guests since we sold out last year," said Susan Tolle, event chairperson.

The holiday teas are scheduled for 11:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. Dec. 11 and Dec. 12; and candlelight teas at 7 p.m. Dec. 9, Dec. 10 and Dec. 11.

The Sharpe House will be decorated by local designers, including Farm House Gardeners, Lake Norman Gardens, Moore Buds and Bows, and Sherl Reindollar-Design Consultant, and guests will have the opportunity to purchase many of the decorations.

Guests will be served sweets, savories, scones and tea while listening to music performed by local artists, including harpists Rebecca Jones, Helen Rifas and Mary Umbarger; dulcimer player Sarah Borders; and the Dlugokecki family.

"We are excited about the event. It's a great venue for celebrating the holidays with friends, family, or co-workers," Tolle said.

The funds raised through the event will go to the community campaign, which has raised $690,400 through Tuesday, 53 percent of the United Way's $1.3 million goal.

Tickets are $25 for holiday teas and $28 for candlelight teas ($20 tax deductible) for adults and $15 ($10 deductible) for children 10 and younger.

Reservations are required and the deadline to purchase tickets is Dec. 1.
