Raiders girls win opening swim meet

CHINA GROVE - North Iredell's girls team won its season opener Tuesday in a four-team meet with South Rowan, Carson and West Rowan.

The Raiders posted 199 points to beat out second-place South Rowan.

North's Jessie Cromie won the 200-yard individual medley and 100 backstroke, and Liz Hernandez won the 100 freestyle and 100 breaststroke.

Rachel Marsilia took first in the 100 butterfly and second in the 200 IM for the Raiders.

North also won the 200 medley relay and the 200 freestyle relay. It placed second in the 400 freestyle relay.

Other runner-up finishes for North's girls included the 100 butterfly (Janel Marsilia), and 100 breaststroke (Rachel Wells).

Led by Zack Safrit and James Shoobridge, North's boys finished second with 86 points.

South Rowan was the runaway winner in the boys competition, totalling 224 points.
