A Harmony man was arrested after authorities said he ran away on foot when a sheriff's deputy was checking on two suspicious people at a store.
Daniel Joey Mitzel, 21, was charged with resisting, obstructing and delaying a law enforcement officer, possession of cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia, assault on a governmental official and possession of an open container of alcohol.
Iredell County Sheriff Phil Redmond said Sgt. Randall Chilton of the Aggressive Criminal Enforcement (ACE) team answered a call about a suspicious vehicle at Barker's Log Cabin store in Harmony Monday night.
Chilton noticed two people, both of whom were drinking, Redmond said. He conducted a pat-down search of the man, later identified as Mitzel, and found cocaine in his pockets, the sheriff said.
