A Harmony man faces charges of attempted second-degree rape, sexual battery and assault on a female.
Felipe Pizano Vargas, 31, was arrested Thursday at his home.
Sheriff Phil Redmond said a 33-year-old woman came into the sheriff's office on Oct. 23 and reported that she had been assaulted several times since March.
The case was assigned to Detective Sgt. Bill Hamby of the Special Victims Unit.
Hamby met with the woman and an interpreter. She told Hamby about the assaults and when they occured.
Hamby and Detective Sgt. Brian Fink conducted several interviews with witnesses.
On Thursday, Sgt. Barry Tilley of the warrant squad arrested Vargas.
Vargas was placed in the Iredell County Detention Center and is being held in lieu of a $28,000 bond.
His immigration status is also under investigation.
