A Statesville couple faces drug-related charges following a license checkpoint stop early Monday morning.
Bobby Gene Johnson Jr., 54, and Tina M. Carroll, 47, both of Statesville, were arrested.
Johnson was charged with possession of Schedule II, possession of Schedule VI, possession of drug paraphernalia and having an open container in the vehicle.
Carroll was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, open container violation and driving while license is revoked.
Around 1 a.m., deputies from the Iredell County Sheriff's Office were conducting a license checkpoint at the intersection of Wilkesboro Highway and Midway Road.
A blue van approached the checkpoint and pulled off to the side of the road just prior to the checkpoint, Sheriff Phil Redmond said.
Deputies John Adams and Dwayne Christian, along with Lt. Doyle Summers, went to the vehicle.
Redmond said the deputies checked the driver's information and discovered Carroll's license was revoked.
A search was conducted of the van, and deputies found a pipe in her coat, along with other drug paraphernalia in the van, Redmond said.
Adams noticed Johnson had an open beer in the van, Redmond said.
Deputies found a bag of powder cocaine in a cigarette box on Johnson, and also found a marijuana cigarette, Redmond said.
Both were charged.
