More than two months after the Crisis Intervention Program's money ran out, the Iredell County Department of Social Services is still waiting for additional funding.
The most recent of two allocations totaling $120,994 was exhausted on Aug. 25, and DSS officials haven't received word on when its next share will come, said Program Administrator Lisa York.
"We get those funds periodically," she said. "They could come at any time."
The federally funded assistance program is designed to provide assistance to low-income households in heating or cooling related emergencies.
DSS Intake Supervisor Sandy Morrow said she isn't sure if additional funding is in the pipeline. She hadn't received any notification about the next installment as of Thursday afternoon.
From July 1, 2008, to June 30, DSS distributed $595,392 to local residents who qualified for the program, Morrow said.
The assistance cap for CIP is $400 per household per fiscal year, she said. When the money was available, residents in crisis could come in as often as needed throughout the state's fiscal year until they reached that limit.
DSS is currently taking applications for another federally funded heating assistances program, Low Income Energy Assistance Program, through Nov. 13.
Eligibility requirements include having one U.S. citizen or non-citizen who meets the eligibility criteria and income requirements. Applicants must have reserves at or below $2,200 and be responsible for heating bills.
